Minimum rest

Set the legal minimum daily and weekly rest, so the schedule stops you before someone is overworked.

Many countries require a minimum rest between one working day and the next, for example 11 hours, and a longer rest once a week, for example 24 hours. Weqly can enforce both for you: set the minimum once, and the schedule won’t let a change through that leaves someone with less rest.

Setting the minimum

  1. Click your profile picture → Workspaces.
  2. Click the three dots next to the workspace → Settings.
  3. In the Compliance section, under Legal minimum rest, enter the hours for Daily and Weekly, uninterrupted.
  4. Click Save Changes in the bar at the bottom of the page.

Leave a field empty (or set it to 0) to switch that check off. Only admins and owners can change it.

  • Daily is the rest between one block of work and the next.
  • Weekly, uninterrupted is one continuous rest inside each week, not the total time off. With 24, everyone needs at least one stretch of 24 hours in a row without work each week. Only the part of a rest inside the week counts, and the week starts on the day set in your profile.

What happens when you schedule

Rest is measured between one block of work and the next. Shifts that touch or overlap count as one block, and team shifts count for every member of the team.

  • On the Manage grid, anyone short on rest gets a Compliance warning with how many hours they’re short. The weekly check shows in Week and Month view, for weeks you see in full.
  • When you save changes that would breach the minimum, Weqly stops and shows Minimum rest period. To save anyway, enter an Override reason and choose Save anyway. The reason is recorded with your changes.
  • Copying shifts never leaves any out because of rest. Copies that break a minimum get the same warning, and you give a reason when you save.

Weqly only stops a save for rest your changes take away. If someone was already short on rest, for example because of a recurring rule, they keep the warning on the grid, but saving isn’t blocked. Recurring rules are never blocked, so a rule that is short on rest on purpose can stay as it is.
