Breaks
Plan paid or unpaid breaks into shifts, take a break from your dashboard, log one afterwards, and see how breaks affect hours.
Weqly knows two kinds of breaks: planned breaks, which a manager builds into a shift, and taken breaks, which people record themselves when they actually stop working. Both can come off worked hours, and Weqly makes sure the same minutes are never deducted twice.
Planned breaks
When creating or editing a shift, a recurring rule or a template, choose Add break to plan a break inside it. Each break has a start, an end and an optional label (for example âLunchâ).
- Tick Paid (counts as worked time) for breaks that are paid. Theyâre shown on the shift but donât reduce hours.
- Unpaid breaks (the default) are subtracted from the shiftâs hours.
- Breaks must fall within the shift and canât overlap each other.
Planned breaks are copied along with a shift, so templates and copied weeks keep them.
Taking a break (Break tracking)
With Break tracking on (it is by default, see Enabling features), people can record the breaks they actually take.
Live, from the dashboard
- While youâre working, open your Dashboard.
- Choose Take a break. The card shows when your break started.
- When youâre back, choose End break.
âWorkingâ means youâre on a shift right now. If your workspace uses Clock-in, it means youâre clocked in instead. Clocking out ends a running break. If you forget to end a break, Weqly closes it automatically when your shift ends, so it never eats into a later shift.
During a planned break, the dashboard shows Planned break until its end time instead of the button.
Afterwards, from the shift
Forgot to press the button? Log the break later:
- On the Schedule, open the shift the break was in.
- Choose Log a break.
- Enter From and To.
- Choose Log break.
The break must be over, fall within that shift (or clock-in session), and not overlap another break you logged. Once logged, you canât change it yourself. Ask your manager if something needs fixing.
Reviewing breaks (managers & admins)
Admins and team managers can see and correct the breaks people took:
- On the Manage page, open a personâs hours breakdown.
- Choose Breaks to see their taken breaks month by month.
- Each break shows where it came from: Live, Logged later or Added by manager.
- Use Add break to record one on their behalf, or edit or delete an existing one.
Every change a manager makes is recorded in the audit log.
How breaks affect hours
- Taken breaks are always unpaid, so they come off worked hours.
- Unpaid planned breaks come off worked hours too. Paid planned breaks donât.
- When a taken break overlaps an unpaid planned break, the overlap counts only once. Taking your planned 30-minute lunch doesnât cost you an hour.
Breaks show up in the hours breakdown and in the Work-time record export.
